President William Ruto’s team is currently experiencing a deep-seated rift, which has led to a major sibling rivalry within Kenya Kwanza. Important players in this bitter dispute range from powerful political individuals connected to the party to Cabinet Secretaries.
Murkomen vs Cherargei
The clash between Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen and Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei has been a focal point of this internal strife.
Cherargei, a member of the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party, openly criticised Murkomen for allegedly neglecting to provide job opportunities to local contractors on regional road projects.
This public spat emerged during a burial in Chesumei, Nandi County, in October.
The disagreement remained, sometimes manifesting itself in cryptic conversations on social media.Cherargei was escorted out of the Senate chambers in November amid Murkomen’s questioning. Senator Abdulkadir Mohamed Haji ordered Cherargei’s removal from the Senate as a result of his protests at not being given the chance to question the CS.To stoke the flames, Murkomen filed a lawsuit against Senator Cherargei on December 8 following the senator’s accusations of corruption.
Charargei vs Sports CS Ababu Namwamba
The rift extended to another contentious relationship between Senator Cherargei and Sports and Entertainment Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba.
Cherargei lobbied for Namwamba’s appearance before the National Assembly to address allegations of mishandling the Kenyan Sports sector.
The Senator accused Namwamba of failing to honour Kenyan athletes after winning competitions, ignoring their plight, and running down the sector in general.
DP Gachagua vs Moses Kuria
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and Public Service Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria clashed in a different but intense exchange.Kuria’s comments about the high price of petrol drew criticism from Gachagua, who emphasized the importance of appropriate communication.
Kuria went on to accuse the DP of planning his dismissal from the Trade Ministry by means of cryptic social media statements.Later, CS Kuria would charge Gachagua with manipulating ropes to ensure his name was left off the list of honorees on Jamhuri Day.
