EAC CS Booed For Defending Govt on Cost of Living
As Peninah Malonza, the East African Community Cabinet Secretary, was defending the government against the high cost of living on Saturday in Kitui Central, she was heckled by her people. While visiting the funeral of a former radio host, the CS informed the locals about the measures President William Ruto had taken to stabilize the situation, including putting policies in place that would strengthen the nation’s economy.
Nevertheless, the audience booed her during her address, accusing her of betraying them by the government. The President is making a lot of effort; he has even traveled to Europe and searched for funding since he is aware of how expensive living is right now. We found empty coffers, but the good news is that our development partners have advanced the money to us, which will ease the situation,” she continued.
Throughout the course of making her speech, the CS experienced a torrid time as the residents would hear none of it.CS Malonza also justified Ruto’s foreign trips stating that they are needed since the president is lobbying development partners claiming that the government inherited empty coffers and a bad economy which she stated Ruto is trying to fix.
“You are seeing him looking for money to save the economy because he is doing everything he can to ensure that the cost of living decreases,” she said.Malonza further asserted that the country will benefit from the tax policies implemented by the Kenya Kwanza administration since they would eventually improve the country’s economic standing.
Instructively, while trying to explain government policies, Ruto CSs have recently encountered negative reactions, even in their political strongholds.President William Ruto was present at a church service on November 19 in Bomet, where Energy CS Davis Chirchir was subjected to heckling.
