KNEC Explains Delay in Results Sent Via SMS

The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has attested to the fact that the problem that was hindering the public’s ability to view the KCPE 2023 results has been fixed. KNEC said that an issue in the SMS coding was the cause of the problem.

The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has attested to the fact that  the problem that was hindering the public’s ability to view the KCPE 2023 results  has been fixed. KNEC said that an issue in the SMS coding was the cause of the problem.

In response to criticism from parents, the Kenya National Examinations  Council (KNEC) has expressed regret for the wait for access to the recently  issued KCPE results. The Council said in a statement that the technical team was attempting to find a  solution and that they would notify the public as soon as the shortcode was  available. It was suggested to candidates that they send their index number to 40054 in  order to view their results.

“Greetings, we apologize for the delay in accessing KCPE 2023 results. We will update you once they are available on 40054,” the statement read in part.

An hour after Education CS Ezekiel Machogu revealed the exam results, Kenyans  on the internet lamented unable to view the KCPE results. Parents claim that because they had to wait patiently for the results, this caused  tension in them as well as in teachers and kids. Some bemoaned having to pay Ksh25 per SMS by having to send the message  more than once.

They urged the Ministry to be considerate when releasing national examinations in the future.”It has created anxiety for everyone including teachers, the parents. I would just request the Ministry to release what is ready, in the next national examinations,” one of the parents told the media. “You see if you keep sending then you’re charged Ksh25 every time. Next time, they should be considerable.”

After sending the text through 40054, a spot-check revealed the following response: “Dear customer, the KCPE 2023 results are not available.” Please give it another go after the announcement. On the official KNEC website, however, a few of students were allowed to view their results.

The mobile service provider stated that consumers will be paid upon getting the results in response to complaints about the rates they were charged each time they sent a message. “You won’t be billed until you receive the outcomes. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience,” a portion of the statement said.
