Passenger vehicle bombed in Wajir, deaths are reported
Five passengers were being transported in the all-weather road Land Cruiser van that had been modified into a PSV when it struck the IED.
The IED was discovered by the car in the Qurqura region. Which is a well-traveled route for numerous traders in both the Wajir and Mandera Counties . Between the towns of Alungu and Elwak.
The survivors immediately called Mandera County police in a panic for help. Minutes thereafter, a number of police officers showed up on the scene to survey the situation and evacuate both the dead and the injured.
The hurt travelers were taken right away to Mandera Level Five Hospital, where they are already being treated.
In particular, the metallic elements that had been packed within the makeshift bomb caused shrapnel damage to the passengers. It is believed that Al-Shabaab terrorists who have been attacking Kenyan forces present in the vicinity planted the improvised explosive device.
The violent Islamist organization with a base in Somalia has been attacking people in Northern Kenya for years. The gang has also been particularly active in coastal Kenya. Where it has attacked security personnel and civilians on multiple occasions.
The al-Shabaab organization has been active again in Northern Kenya in recent years. Northern Kenya has suffered greatly as a result of al-Shabaab’s presence there. Thousands more people have been displaced as a result of the attacks, which have left hundreds dead and injured. Additionally, the violence has damaged the economy and made it harder for residents to acquire basic services.
