4 Politicians Suspended After ODM Directive

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party suspended four Kisumu County  Assembly Members on Thursday for serious misbehavior. The party informed Kisumu County Assembly Speaker Elisha Jack of its decision to  suspend the four: Carolyne Opar (nominated), Kennedy Ajwang (nominated), Peter  Obaso (nominated), and Regina Kizito (nominated).

The four were initially expelled, but the party reversed its decision. The four have been suspended and are no longer permitted to participate in any county assembly activity.”As per the letter, I hereby inform you that the above-mentioned members are suspended from all functions of the assembly with immediate effect,” said a portion of the statement.”I respectfully request that the County Assembly Clerk take note of this communication and take the necessary administrative actions to enforce the suspension of the aforementioned members.”

“I urge all members to follow this decision and keep our assembly’s integrity and smooth functioning during this time.” Additional instructions and updates will be issued as needed.”

The suspension of the four MCAs comes just one day after the ODM suspended  five MPs for publicly disobeying the party and declaring allegiance to President William  Ruto. Phelix ‘Jalang’o’ Odiwuor (Lang’ata), Elisha Odhiambo (Gem), Gideon Ochanda  (Bondo), Caroli Omondi (Suba South), and Kisumu Senator Tom Ojienda were among  those present. “Members facing allegations of a violation of Article 11(1)(e) of the party constitution and Section 14A of the Political Parties Act 2011 by  openly associating with and supporting activities of a rival political party and  opposing lawful decisions/resolutions made by the party organs shall be deemed  to have resigned from the party,” the party stated. Following the announcement, Jalang’o responded by saying he was still a member of the ODM Party.

In an interview, the legislator stated that he had not yet received any information from the party leader regarding the decision.”Let me tell you something: I will be the Lang’ata Member of Parliament until 2027.” You can take this to the bank. “No changes will be implemented.””Normally, when a party expels you, they write to the Speaker, who declares the seat vacant, and people return to the ballot box.” This is what happens if you do not file an appeal.” “ODM is aware that there is no case. “People like (Wiper) Kalonzo Musyoka were at State House, others were fined, but we were expelled, why is that?” he wondered.
