How To Check Cut-Off Points on KUCCPS Portal

Once the Kenya University and Colleges Central Placement (KUCCPS) opened for application on January 8, 2024, a number of students who were interested in applying for degree, diploma, and certificate programs brought up questions about the application procedure.Students are encouraged to apply early to avoid the last-minute rush, as KUCCPS extended the application deadline to February 20, 2024.

The Placement body observed that the application was directed towards two specific groups: Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) students in 2023 and form four leavers from 2000 to 2022.But, a few hours later, students reported that the portal was unavailable, preventing them from submitting an application. In response, KUCCPS advised the students to keep cross-checking because there is a lot of traffic on the platform.

The distinction between cut-off points and cluster points, as well as how to access each for the degree or certificate program of one’s choosing, was another topic raised. An explanation of the steps involved and how they differ:

What is the difference between cut-off points and weighted cluster points?

According to KUCCPS, cluster points are a graduate’s computed performance in four subjects required for admission to a given degree programme against that of the best candidates in a particular KCSE exam year.

The points are based on cluster subject requirements and overall candidates’ performance. To reduce the chances of applicants tying on points, the Placement Body computes the figure to three decimal places.

On the other hand, cut-off points are the weighted cluster points of the last competitively placed student in a given degree programme.
