Didmus Barasa, a member of parliament for Kimilili, and former defence cabinet secretary Eugene Wamalwa got into a heated argument on Saturday on the high cost of living. Disagreements emerged during a burial in Tongaren Constituency, Bungoma County, as a result of Wamalwa’s allegations that the Kenya Kwanza government had failed to fulfill its pledge to reduce living expenses and was seeking a scapegoat for the nation’s numerous problems.
“Kenyans are suffering due to the high cost of living, but our friends claim that there is nothing they can do about it because it is a global issue. Nothing could be more untrue than this, said Wamalwa. The former CS contended that it was not possible for fuel costs in Kenya to be higher than in Tanzania due to Israeli or Pakistani issues.
“High taxes are President William Ruto’s concern. Fuel Value Added Tax was quadrupled under the Finance Act of 2023, according to Wamalwa. When Barasa took Wamalwa’s microphone and declared that the former CS lacked the moral right to criticize the President, the situation became more heated.
Barasa said that President William Ruto is open to discussing measures to reduce living expenses with all lawmakers, with the exception of Wamalwa, who is known to have a chilly relationship with the President of State.
