Reasons for Early Closing of Schools
Reasons for Early Closing of Schools
Primary and secondary schools will be closing next week, according to the Ministry of Education’s 2023 school calendar. The majority of secondary schools will end their academic programs on Monday, October 23, 2023, but some will end on Thursday, October 19, 2023, according to information that has come to light. Most primary schools are anticipated to close on Wednesday, October 25, while a sizeable portion will do so on Thursday, October 26.
This departure from the Ministry’s official timetable is mostly the result of a conflict with a significant national exercise. The Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) and Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exam rehearsals will thus take place before the scheduled closing date for primary schools.
The 2023 KCPE and KCSE exams are expected to start on October 30 and end on November 1, 2023. The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has guaranteed that all necessary preparations have been made in order to give these national exams to almost 2.3 million students.
In particular, 1,282,574 Grade Six students will sit for the Kenya Primary School Examinations (KPSEA), while around 1,415,315 candidates will take the KCPE exam and 903,260 candidates will take the KCSE examination. Additionally, the 2024 school calendar, which was already made public by the Ministry of Education, states that after a ten-week break, classes would resume on January 8, 2024.
