Items Banned from Exam Rooms
The Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) announced a set of rules on Wednesday in an effort to reduce cheating during this year’s national exams. The organization has released a statement identifying forbidden objects in exam rooms as it gets ready to supervise the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) and Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams, which will start on October 30 and October 23, respectively.
Wristwatches and programmable calculators are among the items KNEC listed as being prohibited from being brought into the exam rooms by applicants. Kiondos, backpacks, briefcases, and bags are also absolutely prohibited.
Additionally, electronic devices such as mobile phones, smartwatches, headphones, tablets, body cameras, camera pens, and Bluetooth-capable devices are banned from the exam rooms.
Candidates for exams are not permitted to wear certain types of attire, shoes, or materials that contain handwritten notes due to strict regulations put in place by KNEC. The Council also reaffirmed its commitment to barring candidates from having any body inscriptions, with the exception of tattoos that have been officially acknowledged as being exempt from the list of materials that are prohibited.
The Council strongly advised candidates to uphold their integrity and desist from posting information about exams on social media. Throughout the examinations, KNEC expects applicants to be truthful and keep their integrity. It is recommended that candidates attend early for their tests to ensure punctuality and lower stress.
Additionally, the Council advised candidates to leave their cellphones at home and to avoid using them while taking tests. KNEC underlined its confidence in carefully planning and securing the exams in its final statement.
