Students at the Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) are required to adhere to a dress code that forbids the wearing of plastic shoes, slippers, Crocs, miniskirts, torn jeans, and other types of “indecent wear” that the university deems inappropriate. This instruction was given by Bernardatte Abwao, the institution’s dean of students, in response to concerns about the rising prevalence of inappropriate clothing among some students.

Dr. Abwao thanked students in the memorandum for abiding by the university’s dress code while simultaneously expressing worry for those who don’t. The establishment also prohibits wearing T-shirts with vulgar writing, Crocs, slippers, and all plastic footwear.

The message further states that students will not be allowed entry to the university  if they are wearing miniskirts, skin-tight pants, torn jeans, low-cut tops, or dresses. Additionally, female employees are advised not to wear sleeveless T-shirts, microshorts, see-through gowns, or clothing that exposes their bra straps. Male students are advised not to dress in drooping pants or chest-baring clothes.

The university places a strong emphasis on the requirement that students adhere to  the specified dress code by dressing modestly and correctly.
