On Saturday midday, four Kenyan construction workers were fatally shot by gunmen who were suspected of being Al-Shabaab terrorists.
The location is near the Kenyan border with Somalia, an area of routine operations for the terrorist organization Al-Shabaab.
Four of the eight workers were slain when armed men opened fire on them from close range while they were sleeping.
The remaining employees were able to flee the scene unscathed.
Reports state that the terror group may have orchestrated the attack in response to the contractor’s initial refusal to cease building.
Due to the recent attacks by Al-Shabaab, the government has been obliged to postpone plans to reopen the 700-kilometer border between Kenya and Somalia.
Since then, the Interior Ministry has acted swiftly to increase local security in the wake of the incident.
This incident happened just two days after Mandera police officers found explosive devices that were set to go off.
Similar events occurred on March 29 of this year at Dhobley, a town that shares a border with Somalia, where the militia shot and killed six Kenyan merchants.
The authorities confirmed the occurrence and connected the six Meru businessmen’s attack to militants from Al-Shabaab.
Ali Manduku, the Deputy County Commissioner for Liboi, observed that the terrorists used such harsh tactics to establish their authority in the border town.
