Over a hundred people were successfully connected to nursing positions abroad by two Kenyans who are living in the United States.

Kericho natives Joktan Tanui and Japheth Kemoi have been managing the Central Nurses Staffing Agency in Kansas, which connects nurses with employment around the nation.

In an interview with Daring Abroad, the two—who collaborate with Mudibo, a third immigrant to the nation—explained how their working strategy entails hiring nurses, seeing to it that they are qualified and accredited, and then sending them to hospitals as needed.

They reimburse their staff after receiving payment from the hospitals.

A dearth of nurses led Kemoi and Tanui, who are also trained nurses, to launch their company in 2020, at the height of the pandemic.

The two explained how their company has grown and now employs over 119 nurses who are sent to partner hospitals in the United States.

In order to meet the increased demand, they have also stated that they are attempting to bring in nurses from Kenya.

Kemoi, the agency’s chief operating officer, said, “We want to venture into getting nurses from Kenya because we know there is a huge shortage of nurses, especially here in the US and Europe. We want to get people from home so that they can cover those gaps.”

The two have stated that their goal is to sponsor the immigration process for healthcare professionals who would eventually sign a long-term contract with the organization.

The two contend that there are many levels of nursing education in the US and that obtaining the necessary qualifications requires varying lengths of study.

Nurses can be employed after completing a one-month training to become a Certified Nursing Assistant.

The two did point out that certified nurses, including those who have completed graduate-level coursework, have additional opportunities.
