Sebit Primary School in West Pokot county now has Sh3 million new classrooms because to funding from the National Fund for the Disabled of Kenya (NFDK).

The initiative seeks to promote equity in the community by making education more accessible to students with disabilities.

Major (Rtd) Marsden Madoka, a trustee of NFDK, stated there is need to ensure equity in access to learning opportunities for all students.

Madoka was giving a speech when the school’s classrooms were put into service.

He forbade parents from keeping disabled children hidden, claiming that doing so denies them their inalienable right to an education.

“We urge parents not to conceal their children’s disabilities but to bring them out so they can receive necessary assistance,” he said.

Madoka assured of NFDK’s commitment to support initiatives that promote the well-being and empowerment of persons with disabilities.

“We are dedicated to assisting where there is a need. Our investment in projects that generate income aims to provide sustainable support to the disabled community,” he said.

He pledged to provide wheelchairs, crutches and other essential items for learners at the school.

“We encourage individuals to seek assistance. We extend our support to the disabled community annually. The newly constructed classrooms and offices at this school will benefit the entire sub-county,” he said.

Ann Mugambi, a trustee at NFDK reiterated their dedication to enhancing the quality of education for individuals with disabilities.

“Through our flagship projects, we aim to provide opportunities for the disabled to receive quality education,” she said.

Seventy impaired students will benefit from the specially designed classrooms that meet their needs.

Kipkomo’s Sub County Director of Education, Evans Onyancha, praised NFDK for helping the students.

The headmaster of the school, Hilda Ruto, stated that some parents are reluctant to enroll their challenged children, and they have been dealing with inadequate infrastructure.

“We are dedicated to greatness in spite of these obstacles. Children are frequently deprived of important educational opportunities by parents who put off enrolling them, according to Ruto.

Parent Teresa Longar thanked NFDK for the classrooms, stating that locals would no longer have to suffer through the misery of having to walk a great distance to find schools for their kids.

“The construction of these classrooms will ease our struggles,” she stated.
