TSC Changes Tune On When It Will Confirm Interns To PnP Terms
TSC Modifies Its Schedule Regarding Senior Intern Confirmation. More than 25,000 intern teachers working in junior and primary schools will have their permanent, pensionable positions confirmed by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).
The Budget and Appropriations Committee Chairman, Honorable Ndindi Nyoro, said as much last week. When presenting the government budget’s appropriations for 2024–2025 in Parliament, he made this statement.
The only teachers who will be confirmed are those who extended their internship contracts earlier this year.
This suggests that when the confirmation process begins, those who were hired in February 2023 and are currently working for other organizations will be given preference.
Intern graduate instructors with degrees will be placed in job group C2, while those with PTE certifications will start in grade B5.
As the funds were being issued, money to verify the teachers was taken into account for the 2024–2025 budget.

Ndindi Nyoro also declared that she would be hiring 20,000 more intern teachers this year.
This announcement follows TSC Chief Executive Dr. Nancy Macharia’s recent announcement that TSC will start hiring at least 20,000 more intern teachers to help with junior school staffing shortages.
During a media appearance, Macharia admitted that most junior secondary schools have a persistent teacher shortage.
In contrast to the 56,928 teachers who were recently hired, Macharia asserts that there is a 99,045 teacher shortage.
In light of the discovery that primary schools employ 18,194 more teachers than necessary, TSC has announced that 6000 positions are open for the placement of P1 teachers in junior high schools.
This occurs following the two-class reduction and the introduction of the new curriculum.
The application deadline for primary teachers to be deployed was March 18, 2024, for those with secondary choice degrees and a C+ in two subjects of instruction and the KCSE.
Last year, TSC assured intern instructors that extending their contract would guarantee their job for the long run.
At first, it was assumed that since the budget will be read in July, confirmation would occur then. It has been decided, nevertheless, that the intern teachers will not be confirmed until they have completed the two years. As a result, January 2025 will see confirmation.
