UDA Politician Dies in Grisly Accident
Godfrey Mapesa, a candidate in the general election of 2022 for the Lumakanda Ward seat, passed away on April 14 in an early-morning accident.
Senator Boni Khalwale of Kakamega, a member of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), disclosed in a post on Sunday that he was killed while driving a personal vehicle.
According to reports, his vehicle crashed in Lugari, Kakamega County, near the Mwamba area.
There were still few details available about the accident at the time this article was published. Whether the MCA was the only person to die in the morning incident is still unknown.
Mapesa lost to the incumbent MCA, Bernard Wanyonyi Mulama Bokanda, in his attempt to run for the Lumakanda MCA seat in 2022 on a UDA ticket.
Bokanda, along with other regional leaders, expressed grief for the deceased politician, characterizing Mapesa as a dynamic leader whose passing will be a great loss to the entire Luhya community.
“The people of Lumakanda Ward are losers. On his official social media accounts, Bokanda posted, “Rest in Peace, Brother, friend, and colleague.”
Khalwale expressed her grief for the young politician and said that she was having trouble accepting Mapesa’s passing.
It’s challenging to accept this. Part of his condolence message said, “I extend my condolences to the people of Lumakanda ward, his family, colleagues, and friends.”
The MCA candidate died shortly after a police officer died in a horrific accident in the same Mwamba neighborhood.
According to reports, on April 11, the police officer was killed when a trailer struck him while he was riding a motorcycle.
The truck allegedly struck the officer from behind while he was riding his motorcycle while on yearly leave.
On Saturday, April 13, another accident along the Marsabit-Moyale Highway resulted in the death of another police officer.
This happened in the Kambi Nyoka area when the car apparently veered off the highway and started rolling several times before stopping in a thicket.
