Education CS Machogu Takes Action After Candidates Drown
The relatives of the five students from Arap Moi Primary School who drowned on Saturday in front of the 2023 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) exams received condolence letters from Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu on Sunday. The Cabinet Secretary apologized in a statement for losing the candidates to the examinations in a couple of days and promised to look into the situation further.
“I wish a quick recovery to the Grade Six candidate who is currently hospitalised following the incident,” Machogu said. In order to determine the reason of the tragedy, Machogu disclosed that his Ministry and the Ministry of Interior have started their investigations.
“I am working closely with my counterpart in the Ministry of Interior and National Administration, Prof. Kithure Kindiki, to ensure thorough and conclusive investigations are conducted into the unfortunate incident,” Machogu said.He continued by saying that the pertinent agencies will be informed of the investigation’s findings so that appropriate action could be taken.
Machogu cautioned parents not to expose their children to unsafe situations and activities, particularly during the time leading up to national exams.The CS advised the families and the school to remain composed until the investigations were being concluded.He emphasized that all necessary steps are being taken by the administration to guarantee the safety of candidates around the nation.
Five students’ families are in grief following the Saturday night accident, while one student is in the hospital fighting for their life.Amazement Park in Eldoret was visited by the students a few days prior to the candidates’ KCPE, which was set to begin on Monday, October 30.
