TSC Teachers in Rural Areas to Benefit from Biggest Salary Increase

The phase 2 CBA compensation raise and allowances review, which will begin in July 2024, is expected to greatly benefit Teachers Service Commission (TSC) employees who work in rural areas.

Teachers in the new region grouping benefited from increased housing allowances and a basic wage increase ranging from 2.4% to 9.5% during the first phase 1 implementation, which began in July 2023.

Teachers with the lowest incomes benefited the most from the July 2023 salary increase, receiving a 9.5% raise, while teachers at the top of the range received a 2.4% raise.

Following the pay increase, primary school entry-level teachers were paid between Sh. 22,793 and Sh. 28, 491 per month.

Primary, secondary, and C1 teachers now receive pay increases ranging from sh. 28,491 to sh. 35,614 annually.

The monthly salary for special needs teachers teaching in grade C2 ranges from sh. 36,621 to sh. 45,776.

Currently, teachers who teach in Grade C3 receive between Sh. 44,412 and Sh. 56,514.

Teachers in job grade C5, earn a monthly income of between sh.62,272 and sh.78,667.

In addition the D1 teachers among them , those in Senior masters position ,the headteachers, the deputy principals and senior lecturers earn between Ksh.77,840 and  Ksh.95,101

Lastly, the teacher in  job grade D2 who are  deputy principals 2 and senior master 1 teachers earn a minimum of Ksh.91,000, and a maximum of Ksh.110,000.

The second top TSC teacher appointees who are Senior Principals under job grade D4 will get Ksh.118,000 and Ksh.143,000 highest paid.

The school Chief Principals, sitting at the top of the TSC pay pyramid under grade D5 earn between sh.131,000 and sh.159,000 as basic salaries per month.

In addition to receiving increased home allowances, teachers are now receiving new base pay for their profession.It should be noted that all other allowances, excluding housing allowances, have not changed.Teachers providing their services in schools under rural regions would be among those who will be smiling all the way to the bank in the TSC phase 2 salary increment hike that is anticipated in July 2024.
