According to instructors Service Commission (TSC) policy, instructors who have not finished the Teacher Progression Development (TPD) program will not be considered for promotions.
Several accredited colleges presently offer and require the program.According to the commission’s Career Progression Guidelines (CPG), only teachers who have finished the TPD program will be eligible for promotions when they become available.
After TSC began offering TPD training in 2021, there has been a decline in teacher enrollment.
Candidates who have not finished the course will not be considered for promotions, according to the organization.
This implies that teachers who are not registered in the TPD program will not be eligible for promotions during the next teacher recruitment.
In February of this year, TSC encouraged universities who were interested to submit bids. The company then formally announced that TPD training will start on December 20, 2024.
Over the December break, these establishments will offer TPD training to teachers, subject to approval and recommendation.
Virtual TPD training is provided by several organizations. For instance, online TPD training is provided by Mount Kenya Teachers. Many of their pupils also finished their classes by using the institution’s links.
The TSC has authorized several organizations to offer professional development in addition to Mount Kenya University.
Among the institutions are The Kenyatta University, Riara University, and Kenya Education Management Institute (KEMI) have announced that other universities would be chosen and granted permission by TSC to start offering the Professional Development course to teachers this year.
TSC was eventually given the go-ahead to implement the program despite several attempts to halt it through court orders.
The program is currently being supported by the Kwanza administration of Kenya, which has mandated it for all teachers.
Teachers who responded to the first call from the TSC have already been awarded certificates for finishing all five TPD program categories.
In light of this, their requests for promotions will be taken into account. These educators showed up to class on the weekends and in the evenings. Five primary themes are covered in the introduction module.
Comprehensive school health and safety, teacher professionalism, assessment, and evaluation are a few of them.
Pedagogy and Inclusive Practice, Financial Literacy, Instructional Leadership, and CBC are the other four.
Many educators are asking for permission to charge for the program, given the challenging financial conditions we are now facing.
