Parents Complain Children are Overburdened With CBC Homework

Concerns about the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) have been voiced by parents, who claim that assigning too much homework to their kids reduces their productivity.

In a report released on Thursday, entitled “Foundational Literacy and Numeracy Assessment Report,” more than ten percent of parents voiced concerns regarding their children’s overindulgence in activities.

Seven percent bemoaned the overabundance of learning content in the curriculum and called for a review and decrease in a number of areas.In addition, a few parents proposed that schools reduce the quantity of homework assigned to students in order to provide more time for psychological development activities.

From the survey, 74 per cent of parents sought the cost incurred on purchasing learning materials to be lowered.

“Parents are the second most critical stakeholders in education after the children. Besides staking the futures and in some instances, the lives of their children in taking them to schools, they also directly bear over 38 per cent of the cost of education,” the report read in part.

47% of respondents gave the program an average rating in the study, pointing out that it would be improved by resolving the points raised.Twenty-two percent of respondents gave CBC a low ranking and said that immediate action was needed to establish a quality program. Twenty percent gave CBC a high ranking, praising its educational programs and abundance of hands-on activities.

Eight percent of parents saw that their children seemed to be enjoying the curriculum, and 18% of parents said they enjoyed participating in their child’s educational activities.

Sixty-three percent of parents with children enrolled in the curriculum and fifty percent of parents with experience with both the 8-4-4 system and CBC were surveyed among 38,600 people.

“To streamline the education system, the Office of the President established the Presidential Working Party on Education Reforms. The report said, “Its conclusions have sparked intense discussion, and work is still being done to incorporate some of its recommendations into laws and regulations for implementation.
