Several Pupils Feared Dead After School Bus Overturns
Several students were feared dead on Saturday in Mathioya, Murang’a, after a Maadili Primary School bus overturned.Two pupils are said to have passed away from injuries they sustained while receiving care at the Murang’a Level 5 hospital.
According to eyewitnesses, the tragedy happened while the students were leaving a scout event in Nyeri County.They also said that the school bus went off the road, lost control, and overturned in a thicket not far from the road.
The exact number of fatalities and casualties is yet to be established. Police officers arrived at the scene moments after the accident with rescue operations launched to save more pupils trapped inside the bus wreckage.
Pictures of the bus that went viral showed how badly damaged it was and how the glass windows were broken and scattered everywhere, illustrating how serious the accident was. Since then, the authorities have begun investigations to determine what caused the collision.
This accident comes after another one of a similar nature that happened in Vihiga County, where a private vehicle struck and killed a form one student and injured three others.When they were knocked down while crossing the road, the four pupils were on their way to school for an early lesson.
The dead, who had only been at the school for a term, passed away immediately, and the other three were sent to Mbale Hospital.Superintendent Zimbule of Mbale Hospital said, “Of the three students, two were stable enough to return home, while the other will remain behind for further management of her injuries, as the way she is presenting, indicates severe damage.”
