Agenda for Kenya Kwanza’s Naivasha Retreat

Kenya Kwanza leaders will begin their yearly retreat on Sunday at The Lake Naivasha Resort in Nakuru County. The retreat is scheduled to include two distinct sessions: on February 19th, the President and parliamentarians will have a session, and on February 20th and 21st, the Cabinet Secretaries and Principal Secretaries will have a session.

According to information obtained, one of the main topics on the leaders’ agendas is sure to be Raila Odinga’s candidacy for the African Union (AU).This is a follow-up to Raila Odinga, the head of Azimio, indicating his interest in becoming the chairperson of the African Union.

The announcement made by the leader of Azimio has caused division inside the Kenya Kwanza administration, with some members supporting and others opposing his candidacy. Some leaders claim that supporting Raila’s candidacy will lessen the opposition leader’s influence in Kenyan politics; Raila has ruled out this possibility.

The suggestions of the National Dialogue Committee (NADCO) Report will be given priority during the retreat as part of a second agenda item. The NADCO report recommended restructuring the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission, auditing the 2022 electoral process, and adjusting the cost of living.

It was also disclosed that the president intended to utilize the forum to garner support for the Affordable Housing Levy in the event that Parliament votes on it. A forum for MPs and CSs to work out their differences is also anticipated from the session, given that some have previously gotten into public altercations.

But the cabinet said in a statement released on Wednesday that the retreat would assess their work across all ministries.

“As part of the retreat, it is anticipated that the performance of all Ministries and State Offices will be evaluated, and the priorities for 2024 will be outlined and formalized in the Ministerial Performance Contracts.”

The first retreat of the year is supposed to set the tone for the administration; this is the second retreat that the Kenya Kwanza will be organizing.
