Duale’s Brother appointed After Ruto’s annulment
Abdi Bare Duale, the brother of Defense CS Aden Duale, has been appointed head of the Kenya Railways Corporation board by Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen.
According to a Gazette Notice published on Friday, Abdi will take office on February 9, 2024, and serve for three years.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 4(a) of the Kenya Railway Corporation Act, the Cabinet Secretary for Roads and Transport appoints Abdi Bare Duale to be the Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Kenya Railways Corporation, for three (3) years, with effect from February 9, 2024,” the notification stated in part.
One year after Bare’s appointment to the board of Kenya Electricity Transmission Company (Ketraco), President William Ruto canceled it in the notice.
Muhumed Abdi Mohamed was appointed to replace him for three years.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by paragraph 3 (a) of the Articles of Association of the Kenya Electricity Transmission Company Limited, and section 6 (1) (a) of the State Corporations Act, I, William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, appoints Muhumed Abdi Mohamed to be the Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Kenya Electricity Transmission Company Limited, for three (3) years, with effect from February 9, 2024.
A portion of the notice stated, “The appointment of Abdi Bare Duale is revoked.” Under the administrations of both retired President Uhuru Kenyatta and Ruto, Abdi oversaw a number of bodies.
Henry Rotich, the former Treasury Cabinet Secretary, selected him in June 2017 to fill a three-year term on the board of the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA). But a year later, Uhuru rescinded his appointment, meaning his tenure was brief. Later on, Abdi was moved to the Kenya Leather Development Council, where he was appointed chair of the board.
Additionally, he has previously been a member of the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) board of directors.
Duale’s brother holds a Masters in International Trade from Edith Cowan University in Australia.
In other appointments, Education CS Ezekiel Machogu appointed Hawo Shanko as a member of the Council of the North Eastern National Polytechnic for three years.
On the other hand, Dr Yussuf Adan was appointed by Tourism CS Alfred Mutua to serve as a member of the Board of Directors of the Wildlife Research and Training Institute.
