2 ODM Politicians Fight Infront of Raila
Leader of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party Raila Odinga was compelled to step in on Saturday following a brawl between two lawmakers in his presence. Raila was annoyed by the gunfight that broke out between Nyakach MP Joshua Aduma and a Member of the County Assembly (MCA) just moments after he arrived at the event, where he was speaking at the party’s Siaya county membership campaign kickoff.
The leader of the opposition characterized the two parties’ tense exchange as a struggle for Anyang’ Ny’ong’o’s succession after his second term as governor concludes in 2027. Raila took over the microphone and said, “I want to say that when I came in, I saw people pushing each other and claiming to be political candidates.”
“We’re barely a year after the elections and some of you are fighting over political positions,” he stated. Raila cautioned that now that the electioneering season was over, political leaders should not let their own aspirations derail them and instead concentrate on providing services.
“As for those of you who were elected, get a job and help your community. “As an MCA, how come you want to run for MP when you haven’t even proven yourself in the role you were elected to last year?” Raila chastised the less experienced lawmaker. “And If you want to run for MP, why don’t you wait until 2026 before you announce you’re running for MP.” He chastised Joshua Aduma, the MP for Nyakach, as well, accusing him of planning a political demonstration against Anyang’ Nyong’o, the governor of Kisumu at the time. “Aduma! (Nyakach MP), please don’t let me hear something like that ever again. Kisumu County is presently led by a governor. Peter Anyang’ Nyong’o is his name, and he is presently serving his second term as a professor. Allow him to work.
“If you announce that you want to inherit Anyang’s seat, yet he’s still sitting on it, what motivation do you have?.” He questioned. In order to kick off ODM’s membership campaign and revitalize the party, Raila conducted a visit to Siaya. In September of this year, at a meeting of the National Executive Committee (NEC), a resolution was adopted directing the party to hold grassroots elections.
