On Tuesday, January 23, President William Ruto implored Ndindi Nyoro, a member of parliament from Kiharu, and other youthful politicians vying for power in the Mount Kenya region to approach cautiously. Before they fought for kingship, Ruto requested Ndindi and the other new politicians to agree to be taught by the more experienced ones.
The President seemed to have sided with Gachagua based on his words. He did not, however, publicly support the DP for his running mate in 2027, leaving the topic up for interpretation. “Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and I agreed to provide these young guys with mentorship. When we are coaching them, they should proceed cautiously since if they hurry, they would ruin things. Let yourself go and don’t rush things,” Ruto said.
He added that it was not his nature nor that of his deputy president to fight upcoming leaders. A section of Mt Kenya leaders led by Murang’a Senator Joe Nyutu and Gatanga MP Edward Muriu have been openly endorsing Ndindi Nyoro to be Ruto’s running mate in 2027.

Moses Kuria, the Public Service Cabinet Secretary, went on to say on Tuesday, January 17, that he was the most qualified individual to become the king of the area.
