Elisha Odhiambo, a member of parliament for the Gem constituency, has stated that he is an Orange Democratic Movement visionary who merits a direct nomination ticket prior to the general election of 2027.He declared that he would not submit to the party primaries if the ODM had denied him a straight ticket.Instead, he emphasized, he will gather his resources in order to run for the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC)-supervised general election.

“I won’t run for the nomination if I’m not given a straight ticket to fly the ODM flag in Gem. Thus, I’ll save my money for the 100-meter competition,” MP Odhiambo declared.During a bursary form filling and distribution event on Saturday at Karariw Primary School, Odhiambo gave a speech.The Miji Kumi elders chose the recipients of the bursaries.He indicated that ODM grassroots representatives will choose a few more local needy youngsters to receive the educational support program next week.

Odhiambo explained that he is continuously in touch with the people of Gem and that he understands their problems better, and has corresponding solutions to them.

Accordingly, the lawmaker said that he could vie on any party ticket and win if the ODM decided to frustrate him.

“Kata abi mana gi party mar oyieyo, to onge ja ODM manyalo yomba Gem ka(Luo Language),” he told this writer shortly after the event.

This roughly translates to: “Even if I run on a rat’s political party ticket, no ODM candidate can defeat me on the ballot.”Odhiambo continued, saying that since he would be in the “deep state” and in charge, winning the 2027 election would be an easy task for him.”Compared to the past, 2027 will be easier. I have to be deemed the winner because we are the ones who will be bringing the returning officer.” He stated.Odhiambo won the ODM ticket in the 2022 party primaries, but Jalang’o Midiwo—the late Jakoyo Midiwo’s brother and Raila’s cousin—was given the certificate instead of Odhiambo.

Odhiambo would later be rescued by the Political Parties Dispute Tribunal after he rejected persuasions to have them subjected to another ballot to determine a ‘clear’ winner between him and Jalang’o.He went on to win the seat for the ODM on August 9, 2022, hence earning a second term in parliament. Odhiambo is among the nine opposition MPs who visited President William Ruto at the State House last year against the wishes of their party.

Since then, prominent ODM lawmakers, such as party leader Raila Odinga, have frequently set up tents in his district to criticize his choice to work with the government.In the same sentence, Odhiambo harshly criticized Siaya Governor James Orengo, who has subsequently said that anyone who is in favor of the current administration, such as the Gem MP, is not welcome to speak in front of him.He was chastised by Odhiambo, who asserted that it is improper for a leader to challenge another for a dwell because that is not the purpose they were elected.The lawmaker warned Orengo to back down from his extreme position, or else they would both pay a price.

Similarly, the MP called on the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) to summon Senators Edwin Sifuna, Eddy Oketch, MPs John Mbadi and James Wandayo and Governor Orengo over their utterances during the burial of ODM Migori County Chairman Philip Makabong’o in Rongo a fortnight ago.Odhiambo claimed that the politicians belittled and insulted the police and the Interior PS Raymond Omollo.”I want to call on NCIC, if you want the country to be peaceful so that there are no fights in funerals and no tension in the country, you must redress these issues,” he said.The MP noted that Dr Omollo and Cabinet Secretary Eliud Owalo are the only senior members of the Luo community in government thus they deserve respect and support.

“My kinsmen, if our son has been put at the nerve centre of government, let us support him,” he said.Additionally, he exhorted Dr. Omollo not to be afraid.”Don’t let them instill dread in you. I’ve rejected their claim that I can’t be made fearful. “I am staying put as the SG of the ODM, as I have informed them numerous times,” he declared.
