Osoro Threatens to Sue Arati Over Alleged Defamation

South Mugirango MP and majority whip in the national assembly, Sylvanus Osoro, has vowed to file a slander lawsuit against Kisii Governor Simba Arati.Osoro ordered the Governor two days to apologize and take back any remarks he had made about the MP through a demand letter dated January 17 from his attorney Adrian Kamotho Njenga.

“Please take notice that Silvanus Osoro Onyiego (our client) on whose express instructions we proceed to address you, intends to commence rigorous legal action against you, for atrocious conduct, defamation, vilification, publication of malicious falsehoods and abominable character assassination,” read the demand in part. The MP further demanded immediate admission of liability from which they plan to assess the damages.

“Take further notice that unless you absolutely offset the demand herein within two (2) days from the date hereof, we have strict instructions to commence high voltage legal proceedings against you, without any further reference to you whatsoever at your own risks as to costs and other consequences arising therefrom and incidental thereto,” stated the statement. In an attempt to stop his supporters from grading and graveling the Nyabisase-Nyakembene road, Osoro accused Arati of defaming him and sending thugs to attack them there.

The team further lamented that the Governor’s goons attacked a contractor and his employees leading to the destruction of microphones, speakers and a sound mixer. At the beginning of January, Arati accused Osoro of sponsoring goons to disrupt an event where the Governor was issuing bursaries. While the Governor was addressing the gathering, gunshots rented the air, forcing attendees to scamper for safety. Arati’s aide acted swiftly and covered him under a piece of clothing before whisking him out of the scene.

Before order was restored, the altercation continued for roughly thirty minutes. Speaking to the media soon after the chaos, Arati accused Osoro of starting the altercation because he was the target of one of the shots. “There were gunshots everywhere at that point. Many of those rounds, one of which wounded a man in the left ear, were reportedly directed at me. Would you please clarify if we live in a nation that upholds the law? He questioned. But the majority whip distanced himself from the event and urged lawmakers to practice political tolerance.”This is a regrettable scene. Osoro asserted her innocence, saying, “We must be politically tolerant and recognize that elections are still long off.
