In an effort to distribute food and save their people who were stranded by flooding, two Members of Parliament, Ali Wario Guyo (Garsen) and Hiribae Said Buya (Galole), went missing on Saturday at 4 p.m. in the waters of the Tana River. The national administration has made contact with them.
Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki made this revelation in a statement: efforts were being made to locate the boat, the precise location of which was still unclear at the time this piece was published, and security authorities had made contact with the eighteen people who were left stranded on it.
The CS went on to say that the passengers were being rescued and brought back to land by the Kenya Coast Guard. “A passenger in the boat that vanished earlier this evening in the Tana River has been in contact with security authorities.” Kindiki declared, “At this point, all 18 passengers and crew members are safe, however they are at an undetermined location.
The MPs disclosed that they had been on a mission to rescue the locals when they became disoriented after getting in touch with their colleagues and security services. On a speedboat, the lawmakers had departed the coast with plans to deliver food to the several homes that had been impacted by the flooding.
But one of the MPs claimed that they got lost in the water and spent hours lost in navigation on the way back.”Rescuing us is necessary right now; it’s an emergency,” said one of the MPs.
The Garsen and Galole MPs pleaded with the government to send out a rescue squad to get them out of the situation.Among the eighteen people stuck in the river were many Members of the County Assembly (MCA), according to a statement released by Tana River County officials.
Hassan Musa, the Kenya Red Cross Coordinator, revealed that the missing team missed their route after choosing to take a shortcut and splitting up with other rescue teams. In an effort to save the stranded passengers before the floods swept their boat farther away, the Kenya Red Cross coordinated with the Kenya Court Guard to send out a rescue party.
