8 Killed in Grisly Morning Accident Along Eldoret
An collision on the Eldoret-Nakuru Highway early in the morning claimed the lives of eight persons.
According to reports, near the Eveready Roundabout in Nakuru, a speeding trailer collided with a 14-seater matatu that had been stopped by traffic authorities.
The conductor saw the approaching trailer, which appeared to have lost its brakes, and was able to escape without any injuries.
Anger-filled Kenyans confronted the Kaptembwa police, who were purportedly accepting a bribe, and forced them to flee, accusing them of being responsible for the disaster.
“Corruption and greed for Ksh50 by our traffic police officers taking bribes from Matatus has led to the deaths of many innocent souls,” said a witness.
Five individuals had already been officially declared dead as a result of the accident, according to a statement released later by the Kenya National Police Service, despite initial reports claiming that eight people had perished and that survivors had been taken to Nakuru Teaching and Referral Hospital.
To evaluate and handle the problem, police officers raced to the location of the accident. Due to the accident, there was a traffic jam at the roundabout, which was managed by traffic officers.
The true causes of the deadly tragedy have been confirmed by further investigation that has been started. This accident occurs after a head-on collision involving a 14-seater Matatu, a motorbike, and a private vehicle along the Nyeri-Nyahururu highway on December 29, 2023, claimed the lives of seven persons.
After verifying the occurrence, Benjamin Rotich, the commander of Nyeri County Police, cautioned drivers to exercise caution when driving throughout the holiday season. “In order to prevent these kinds of accidents, we are pleading with drivers to drive cautiously, particularly during this festive season,” Rotich said.
