Ruto Suspends 6 CEOs & 67 Police Officers
Felix Koskei, Chief of Staff and Head of Public Service for President William Ruto, has authorized the suspension of six CEOs who are charged with wrongdoing.
State House Spokesperson Hussein Mohamed made a statement in which Koskei accused the six of engaging in irregularities related to procurement.
Additionally, he ordered Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome to take comparable action against 67 police officials connected to corrupt acts, and he suspended an accountant at the Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KERRA).
“The directives follow recommendations by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) for the suspension of the officers, who are currently under investigation,” the statement continued.
“The Chief of Staff and Head of Public Service emphasises that the government remains firm in its commitment to eradicating corruption which, he maintains, undermines its development agenda,” State House added.
The EACC wrote to several Cabinet Secretaries on alleged corruption in different government institutions.
Koseki claims that EACC requested that Water CS Zachariah Njeru suspend Frederick Mwamati, CEO of Tanathi Water Works Development Agency, for allegedly giving an improper tender for the building of a Leather Industrial Park Water Supply Project.
Workforce CS The National Industrial Training Authority’s (NITA) Director-General, Stephen Ogenga, was ordered to be suspended by Florence Bore due to suspected procurement irregularities in the authority’s awarding of a supply tender.
It was requested that Stanvas Ong’alo, the acting director general, be suspended by the board of the National Museums of Kenya due to allegations of misappropriation of Ksh490 million through irregular payments.
The CEO of the Huduma Center Secretariat, Benjamin Kai Chilumo, was ordered to be suspended by Public Service CS, Moses Kuria. “Chilumo is under investigation for corruption allegations when he served in the County Government of Kilifi as the Chief Finance Officer,” said Koskei.
The EACC recommended that Peter Gitaa Koria, the CEO of Bomas of Kenya, be suspended from his position in the Ministry of Gender under CS Aisha Jumwa. Koria is accused of obtaining supplies for the organization unlawfully.
Additional CEOs on suspension pending investigations were Esther Wanjiru Chege, an accountant at KeRRA, and Eng. Anthony Wamukota, the General Manager of Design & Construction at Kenya Electricity Transmission Company Limited (KETRACO).
In these letters, the EACC states that the continued presence in office of the mentioned officers during the investigation will impede and undermine its work. Wamukota was accused of procurement irregularities related to the construction contract of the 400KV Loiyangalani Power Project, while Chege was accused of failing to disclose the source of her wealth.
