Senator Samson Cherargei of Nandi demands that Ababu Namwamba, Cabinet Secretary for Youth Affairs and Sports, accept responsibility for the deaths of four women at Kericho Green Stadium. Cherargei asked action be done against the CS once more on Saturday, stating that the stadium was not properly repaired in time for the Mashujaa Day celebrations, which President William Ruto attended.

He also apologized to Kenyans who got up early to attend the festivities and noted that the occurrence was embarrassing. “My heart breaks for the friends and families who lost loved ones in yesterday’s stampede at Kericho Stadium. We were all mortified by the occurrence. I apologize to everyone in the nation,” Cheragei lamented.
Cherargei’s demands remain unanswered, and CS Ababu Namwamba has not mentioned the incident or responded to them. Numerous locals reportedly tried to enter the stadium as early as one in the morning, and a stampede broke out at Gate C. The deceased are said to have fallen close to a huge hole that was covered with wooden planks. Mud that had accumulated throughout the county after a significant downpour made the situation worse.
However, a police report said that a woman who was hawking tea at the gate was to blame for the mishap. According to the police, she poured the tea into the fire, causing the audience to flee for cover. Thirteen accident victims were taken by ambulance to Kericho County Referral Hospital after suffering serious injuries in the early morning tragedy.
On Saturday, October 21, two of the survivors were released from the hospital after receiving a clear medical report. President William Ruto sent his condolences to the departed person’s family. However, he did not say whether he had given a specific order in this regard. “Before the Mashujaa Day celebrations, my heart goes out to the families of those who perished in the tragedy at the Kericho Green Stadium.

Nevertheless, inquiries into the stampede were ordered by Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki. Kindiki further urged Kenyans to maintain their composure by reassuring them that the government will soon put an end to instances of this nature.
