TSC Teacher Promotion Policy criticized by MP
Clive Ombane, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Kitutu Masaba in Nyamira County, has voiced his displeasure with the Teacher Service Commission’s (TSC) advancement standards. Ombane emphasized the need for a more dynamic approach by highlighting the detrimental effects of teachers staying in the same job grade till retirement.
Speaking to TSC CEO Nancy Macharia, Ombane urged a change in the dynamics of the industry to foster a climate where instructors are inspired to flourish in their teaching methods rather than feeling discouraged. In addition, he expressed alarm over recent ads for promotions to the positions of Principal and Deputy Principal, noting that many people had turned them down due to their high workloads and inadequate pay.
In addition, Ombane encouraged the government to address the teacher shortage that is preventing junior secondary school (JSS) education from succeeding. He disputed the government’s claim that 56,000 teachers are employed, saying that this figure is insufficient in light of the large number of students.
Ombane stressed the need for a more balanced approach to teacher employment in order to overcome the education crisis. He promised to push for more hiring and advancement of teachers in his capacity as a member of the parliamentary education committee.
