Raila Speaks Over Joining Forces With Ruto
On Wednesday, July 10, former prime minister Raila Odinga spoke up after receiving backlash for supporting President William Ruto’s dialogue.
The leader of Azimio acknowledged receiving the letter and promised to respond to Kenyans’ calls.
Following a meeting with Senator Edwin Sifuna of Nairobi and his colleagues Crystal Asige and Eddy Oketch, Raila made the statement.
“Nimeambiwa na hawa viongozi kwamba mumesema hamtaki handshake. Ujumbe umefika,” he stated.
Loosely translated to “I have been told by these leaders that you do not want a handshake. I have received your message.”
The ODM boss was among the leaders who were criticised after supporting the national dialogue that was initiated by Ruto after the anti-Finance Bill protests.
Reports surfaced after the support suggesting that a unity government was about to be formed.
ODM also released a statement cautioning its members not to take part in the demonstrations.
The party stated that it will give communication a chance, as Raila and Ruto have welcomed it.
“There is no denying that we as a nation are at a turning point and on the verge of disaster. One of us must be kind and sufficiently patriotic to assist in bringing the nation to order. ODM Chairperson John Mbadi said, “Once again, Raila is being called names.
The President and the former premier have indicated that the conversation will start on Monday, July 15.
