After an extended closure brought on by the floods, the government has announced that all schools will now reopen.

Officials from the State House have announced that classes will resume on Monday, May 13, 2024.

Following a meeting with leaders from Laikipia and Kajiado behind closed doors, President William Ruto made the announcement.

President William Ruto was quoted by Secretary of State Functions Mike Gitonga as saying, “Schools to re-open on Monday, May 13, 2024.”

It was noted that the directive to reopen schools on Monday was informed by advisories issued by the Kenya Meteorological Department.

The reopening of schools had initially been scheduled for Monday, April 29 before Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu postponed the dates owing to the floods.

Due to security concerns raised by the heavy rains at the time, Machogu announced that the reopening of schools would be postponed by one week.

But since it was raining more heavily, President William Ruto decided to delay the reopening of the schools even longer.Machogu Orders Retention Of Learners Already In School

“The Ministry of Education is directed to postpone the dates of reopening of all schools in the country for the second term until further notice,” Ruto announced during his national address on Friday, May 3.
