The 2-6-6-3 approach is used in Kenya’s competency-based curriculum (CBC) structure, enabling students to advance to the university level of study.

With the new CBC education system, students can spend two years in pre-primary, six more years in primary school, and six more years in secondary school—that is, three years in junior school and three years in senior school—while those who choose to continue their education at a university will only need to devote three years.

Similar to the former 8 4 4 System of education, university education is the highest level offered by CBC institutions.
