Many schools are choosing to close early due to financial difficulties, ending Term 1 of 2024 as concerns about the load of the syllabus coverage resurface. It has been determined that due to a shortage of funding to maintain the operations of the schools, a number of secondary schools will start releasing students this week.

The Ministry of Revised Education Calendar states that the first term of 2024 began on January 8, 2024, and that the closing date of this term is scheduled for April 5, 2024.According to the ministry’s schedule, term one will end on Friday, marking the completion of 13 weeks of instruction.

This week’s early closing of certain schools may result in the loss of one full week of instruction, which may cause pupils to race against the clock as teachers attempt to cover the curriculum.

For example, Naivasha Girls Secondary School, which was originally scheduled to close on April 4, reconsidered their closing date. As a result, students will now take a holiday break on Thursday, March 28, as specified by the standard.

Since the students are scheduled to return for the second term on April 29th, the term one holiday will be extended during the school closure and last for a full month. As a result, the Ministry of Education has decided to extend the first term’s break time from the originally planned three weeks to four weeks.

The Nairobi schools Huruma Girls Secondary School and Jamhuri High School intend to close and release their students before to Good Friday in April 2024 in observance of the festival.

The majority of heads of institutions have stated that the financial crisis in schools is a result of the government’s inability to provide support for schools, which makes it difficult for schools to manage their daily operations.

Financial difficulties have also been reported by school principals, who claim that the inability of certain parents to pay their children’s fees has made it extremely difficult for them to manage the schools.
