TSC Teachers Are Officially Set to Retire at 55
TSC teachers are officially scheduled to retire at age 55. A bill to modify the mandatory retirement age for state employees, such as teachers, has been presented in parliament. This change will require teachers to get ready.
In order to make room for the younger generation, the Kenya Kwanza government has now pledged to see to it that older public personnel retire from their posts.
To enable youth to work in public service, the mandatory retirement age should be lowered from its current sixty years to fifty-five. There is a meaningful parliamentary discussion on this subject.
Those who are approaching fifty-five will be trained on life after retirement before being taken off the payroll at that age.
Individuals who are 55 years of age or older have already received training, but before they are retired, they will be informed of the changes.
The National Assembly’s Labour committee said on Thursday, August 3, 2023, that it will be submitting an amendment to the Public Service Commission (Amendment) Bill, 2023, which would cap the retirement age at 55.
A measure being sponsored by Embakasi Central Member of Parliament Benjamin Gathiru seeks to amend the current Act by declaring that no officer shall serve in an acting capacity for more than six months.
