CS Murkomen Sues Nandi Senator Following Bitter Fallout

After a sour breakup, Kipchumba Murkomen, the cabinet secretary for transportation, sued Senator Samson Cherargei of Nandi. On Monday, March 18, the elected senator for the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) made this announcement while sharing court records that were delivered to him from Milimani Commercial Courts.

The Nandi Senator said in response to the legal lawsuit that he would not be intimidated while carrying out his supervisory responsibilities.

After receiving the complaint, Cherargei declared, “We shall defend the great people of Nandi County in the quest for better roads through our blood and sweat.”

Cherargei claimed in December 2023 that CS Murkomen had sued him for asserting that a Chinese investor had offered him an incentive worth Ksh15 billion. This came after he was ejected from the Senate chambers while the Transport Cabinet Secretary was being questioned.

Cherargei was informed at the time that if he didn’t apologize to CS Murkomen within seven days, he would be sued. The complaint was filed on March 12, 2024, according to the court documents that the senator revealed on Monday.

Part of the court filings stated, “You are hereby required within 15 days from the date of service hereof to enter an appearance in the said suit.”

“If you do not appear within the time frame specified above, the Plaintiff may pursue the lawsuit and a judgment may be rendered in your absence.”

As of publishing, Murkomen had not acknowledged receipt of the lawsuit. Cherargei had before complained that he was being disparaged on social media by the former senator from Elgeyo Marakwet.
