A university graduate from Kilgoris, Narok County, is reportedly earning Ksh. 68,000 per week from internet jobs, according to President William Ruto. The president met Abraham Leteipa Kaeno on Sunday when in Kilgoris. He said that Kaeno has embraced working online and is currently earning outstanding amounts each week.
“Abraham Leteipa Kaeno is a compelling tale of how young people may use technology to work for themselves. The 29-year-old Kilgoris university graduate is earning $500 (Sh68,000) every week on average from online jobs through Konza Digital Skills,” Ruto stated in a social media post.
He attached photos showing Kaeno speaking to him and First Lady Rachel Ruto at a desk with a desktop computer.
Ruto’s recent comments are reminiscent of those he made in January following an interaction with a Mosop, Nandi County college student who was purportedly earning over Ksh. 26,000 per week from online jobs.
Ruto was shown by Brian Kipchumba, a student obtaining an ICT diploma, how he made Ksh. 40,000 from a single job on the now-defunct Remotasks website in Kenya.
A few weeks later, the president would declare a campaign known as “Finya computer itoe dollar” in which he would set up computer laboratories in rural areas and train young people who would thereafter be earning money by working online.
Ruto broke ground on the Kenya Utalii College’s Ildolisho Campus and opened the Ildolisho Comprehensive School Konza Digital Skills during his Sunday visit to Kilgoris.
The Konza Jitume Program includes an initiative called Konza Digital Skills, which gives young people access to digital services, digital skills, and possibilities to use technology to create jobs.
