EACC Detectives Arrested School Principal For Receiving Bribe
Erustus Ruiru Nganga, the principal of Keekonyokie Mixed Day Secondary School in Narok County, has been placed under arrest by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) on charges of bribery. Charges of requesting a bribe from a merchant who provided general products to the school led to Nganga’s arrest on Wednesday.
The principal was detained after it was discovered that he had accepted a Ksh. 40,000 bribe, according to EACC spokesman Eric Ngumbi. The amount was part of the Ksh.50,000 bribe he had demanded.
After being apprehended, he was transported to the Ntulele Police Station in Narok, where he is being held while more processing takes place. The supplier had given the school goods valued at Ksh. 410,000, and the EACC claims that the Principal demanded the bribe in order to release payment to them.
Instead of complying, the noncompliant provider reported the issue to the EACC, which devised a scheme to apprehend the educator.
“Cases of this nature are common in schools where some Principals embezzle school funds placed under their care and custody, sometimes in collusion with private persons, including corrupt suppliers who draw money from schools without supplying anything,” according to the EACC.
Anyone with information on corrupt practices in schools is urged to report them to Toll-Free No. 1551 by the anti-graft organization.
