On Tuesday, April 18, the Ministry of Education announced that Kenyans could apply for fully funded scholarships to study for undergraduate degrees in Slovakia, also known as the Slovak Republic.The government announced that it secured a deal for Kenyans who wanted to study abroad for the academic year 2023–2024 from its Slovakian counterpart.

The beneficiaries will also receive housing assistance and other allowances to help them manage their stay in the Central European nation, the Ministry of Education noted. This is in addition to paying their tuition.The applicants were advised that they may choose from one of the 25 offered programs, which included teaching, economics and management, agriculture, wood science, and forestry, among other subjects.

There were also degree programs in public health, nursing, mechanical and civil engineering, food sciences, transport, and computer science.However, it was made clear that all the applicants had to do was buy a plane ticket to the European nation.

“The scholarship pays for tuition, housing costs, and subsistence allowances throughout the whole study year. After a year of intense language study, the lessons will be done in the Slovak language, according to the announcement.RequirementsCandidates must also be between the ages of 18 and 25, and must have a minimum mean KCSE grade of B (Plain).Part of the advertisement stated that applicants “should have strong grades in the major subjects that are key to the preferred specialty and should have completed Secondary Education in the last three (3) years.”A current passport, birth certificate, curriculum vitae (CV), and recommendations from two educators are also needed.

How to Apply

The application form must be filled out, and it is available online at www.education.go.ke or in person at the Teleposta Towers offices of the Ministry of Education.Application forms must be filled out completely and attached with certified photocopies of identification, diplomas, transcripts, birth certificates, and/or other testimonials.On or before May 10, 2023, the Ministry urged applicants to submit the physical forms.By May 23, 2023, all documents must be uploaded to the Slovakian website www.vladnestipendia.sk/en/ for those who prefer the online application approach.
