The goal of the TSC Amendment Bill 2024 is to professionalize the teaching profession in Kenya through the efforts of the Teachers Service Commission (TSC). According to this proposed law, educators who fail to finish the mandatory continuing professional development programs will not be allowed to work as teachers in public or private educational institutions.
By requiring teachers to participate in ongoing professional development to stay up to date on the newest techniques and trends in education, the TSC hopes to improve teaching standards. This policy is in line with international norms that mandate continuing professional development for educators.
The TSC has stated that it is working to make the proposal more appealing and acceptable within the education sector. The bill will become law if it is passed by Parliament and signed by the President.
Reactions to the TSC’s plan have been conflicting. While some see it as an important step in the right direction toward raising the caliber of education, others voice worries about its implementation and its effects on teachers—particularly those who work in distant places.
