According to Ms. Nancy Macharia, Chief Executive Officer of the Teachers Service Commission (TSC), arrangements are in place to provide permanent and pensionable terms to public school employees.
The head of TSC expressed optimism during the Kenya Secondary Schools Heads Association meeting in Mombasa that sufficient funding will be provided for this effort.
The committee intends, whenever government finances become available, to convert intern teachers to permanent and pensionable status, as Dr. Macharia has revealed.
The head of TSC stated, “We are confident that adequate funds will be availed for the exercise,” at the KESSHA meeting in Mombasa.
The employer granted the 46,000 teachers’ request for permanent employment. Since 2019, these professors have been working as interns.
The national spokesperson for intern teachers, Omari Omari, encouraged the TSC to issue a circular once the Finance Bill, 2024, was passed, confirming their permanent and pensionable status.
Ndung’u clarified that this cut is meant to contribute to lowering the nation’s Sh200 billion budget imbalance, which developed as a result of Kenya Kwanza MPs’ decision to remove specific tax measures from the Finance Bill, 2024.
