The Competence Based Curriculum (CBC) was implemented in primary and junior schools, which altered staffing arrangements and decreased the number of classroom lessons taught by each teacher, according to TSC.

According to the commission, there is an excess of 18,194 instructors because there is a noticeable decline in the need for teachers in primary schools.

In order to guarantee a more balanced and lower teacher-pupil ratio in all schools, TSC disclosed intentions to redistribute a number of teachers throughout schools in order to address the junior secondary teacher shortage.

TSC stated earlier this year that it will keep examining primary and post-primary staffing levels and processes in order to improve the equitable distribution of teachers throughout all educational institutions in the nation.

During the release of the KCS in Eldoret, Macharia addressed the media and stated that the introduction of the CBC in primary and junior schools has caused a disruption in staffing levels. As a result, there are now two less classrooms in the primary school level, which are for Standard 7 and 8.

Macharia added that there was a 42,117 teacher shortage in Grade 8 at the Junior School as a result of the addition of an extra class in 2024.

In order to encourage and receive a portion of the mass transfer to junior schools, TSC announced 6,000 slots for primary school teachers who have continued their education.

According to TSC, instructors who have successfully finished their education degrees with at least eight units in their area of specialization are eligible to teach.

Additionally, the teachers must have received a C+ or above in two of the courses they teach, and they must submit their information by March 18, 2023.
