One lawmaker for the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) expressed concern about the growing number of Kisii politicians showing up at social gatherings with appointment letters from the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).
The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and ODM politicians got into a fight during a fundraising event in Bomachoge Borabu Constituency, which prompted the MP to make the comments on Sunday.
Regarding the tumultuous scenes that were observed, the MP claimed that his UDA colleague was to blame for them since they began distributing job offers.
The MP gave an explanation of how the fight started, saying, “One UDA MP started dishing TSC employment letters and Kenya Forestry Services employment letters.”
Kitutu Chache Member of Parliament Anthony Kibagendi remarked that this would be discussed in Parliament.
“We are going to ask hard questions in Parliament about how some MPs can be walking around with employment letters for certain government departments,” he remarked.
Leaders from the area have distributed appointment letters during events before.
A year ago, Member of Parliament Silvanus Osoro mentioned that he received one hundred appointment letters for the TSC for his district.
The National Assembly Majority Whip disclosed that the letters he had were exclusive to South Mugirango constituents while outlining how the area was being helped by the government.
A young man approached the dais at one point and knelt down in front of the CS, pleading for assistance.
“Are you a teacher?” The young man nodded in response to Machogu’s question, and he was then given an appointment letter.
