Concern has been expressed by President William Ruto regarding the approximately 2,100 people who have fabricated their educational credentials in order to obtain government jobs.
Speaking on Wednesday at the third National Wage Bill Conference in Nairobi, Ruto stressed the seriousness of corruption in the public sector and its effects on the growth of the country.
He also reaffirmed his commitment to fighting corruption, stressing that the first step in solving the problem is to take legal action against those who have wrongfully amassed wealth from the State while they were in government.
“We must deal firmly with corruption. There is a lot of wastage and theft in the public space. We can put more resources into development and I think we have now stabilised what we needed to stabilise. We will now confront corruption, head on, going forward,” he said.
“A simple audit has revealed that we have 2,100 people with fake certificates working for government.”
In order to hold the people responsible for their forgery, the President also suggested that they return the money they obtained illegally.
“I hope that this conference will lead to the addition of another resolution regarding phony certificates. “Those who made money with forged certificates ought to reimburse us for the public funds we invested,” he declared.
At the same time, the President of State called on each of them to resign.
“Those who made money with forged certificates ought to reimburse us for the public funds we invested. Isn’t that the same as getting money under false pretenses? Ruto declared, “They ought to quit, go, and look for money to pay us the public resources that they have wrongly earned.
“We have to do what needs to be done, and I plan to do this. The nation must go where it is meant to go if we hope to see it go in the direction we desire.”
