For a three-day camp, about 35 coaches from Liverpool Football Club will travel to Kenya with the intention of giving local coaches the tools they need to develop Kenyan talent.

The coaches of a girls’ football team in Nairobi will conduct a training session with the English Premier League club coaches.

The training session’s primary objective is to equip girls in the communities with the skills they need to succeed in sports.

Liverpool’s primary sponsor, Standard Chartered Bank, launched the initiative. In order to develop the coaching program, the lender also collaborates with the Liverpool Football Club Foundation and Liverpool FC Soccer Schools.

In a press release announcing the camp, Joyce Kibe, Head of Corporate Affairs, Brand and Marketing, Standard Chartered Kenya, stated, “We aspire to identify ways to impact our communities in meaningful and tangible ways.”

She continued, “With this partnership, we can achieve our goals of promoting long-term, sustainable social and economic development and encouraging more girls to succeed.”

Coaches from Liverpool FC will be delivering a comprehensive ‘Play On’ curriculum during the training, including workshops that address participation barriers and the person-centered approach.

The training will also address other topics like “empowering Women in Leadership,” “balancing life,” and mental health and well-being.

The local coaches will be required to implement what they have learned over the three-day program by creating their own session plans that incorporate the Play On curriculum. These plans will be given to the girls in their local communities once the coaches return from their daily tasks.

A local nongovernmental organization’s chief executive officer, Enouce Ndeche, praised the action and called it a chance for social and economic change.

According to Steven Gillespie, Senior Program Manager of International Academies at Liverpool FC, the program’s objectives are to provide participants a unique perspective and useful coaching guidance.

“The combined resources of LFC and Standard Chartered can help girls stay in the sport and strive for success in all aspects of their lives,” Steven Gillespie said of the critically important project Play On.
