Malalah Denies Banning Politicians From Being Interviewed Alongside Sifuna
Cleophas Malalah, the secretary general of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), denied on Saturday, March 16, that members of his party have been prohibited from appearing with Nairobi senator Edwin Sifuna in interviews with the media. The former senator from Kakamega saw a press release circulating on social media that claimed he had issued the purported directive while serving as Secretary General.
“Ignore the circulation and consider it as fake,” he said.
Media outlets were charged with collaborating to portray UDA politicians as mentally retarded in the fictitious press release.
The idea that Sifuna frequently comes across as more intelligent when compared to UDA MPs in interviews and talk shows is the core of the issue.
“To avoid further embarrassing episodes, the party is now pulling the plug on the appearance of its members alongside Senator Sifuna in any show regardless of the media house hosting it,” stated a portion of the release.
The press statement stated that the politicians were asked to find out from the media outlets whether Sifuna was a part of any program to which they were invited, and if so, they ought to turn down the invitation.
Less embarrassingly, it was said that the decree aligned with President William Ruto’s presenting views.
“This decision is occasioned by the desires of the party to project the ideologies of H.E. William Ruto in a way that minimises embarrassment and humiliation to the party and its leadership,” reads a portion of the release.
Remarkably, Kenyans have previously made fun of UDA lawmakers for being overshadowed by Senator Sifuna whenever they are questioned in-depth about the new government.
In February, Sifuna and UDA-affiliated Senator Danson Mungatana of Tana River fell out after Sifuna accused Ruto of lying and making false claims on a regular basis. In the live television interview, Sifuna ignored his counterpart’s attempts to cease labeling Ruto a liar.
People should be respected by Sifana. It is not possible to claim that the president is lying. When Mungatana said, “If people are older than you per Pokomo customs,” Sifuna said, “Ruto is neither a Pokomo nor an elder.”
