Update, Saturday, March 16: The accident involving the Kapsabet Boys High School bus, which was traveling from Kabarnet to Marigat, has been verified to have killed a teacher and a student.

Police Commissioner Stephen Kutwa verified the event, pointing out that there were 61 students on the vehicle at the time of the catastrophe.

“They were heading on a geographical trip, and unfortunately, they had an accident. We have students who have slight injuries but they have been taken to the hospital for treatment,” noted Kutwa. 

After a school bus from Kapsabet Boys High School was involved in an accident  in the Patkawanin area on the Marigat-Kabarnet road on Saturday, March 16, two persons are thought dead. The Kenya Red Cross Society confirmed the occurrence and disclosed that a  rescue squad had been dispatched to aid in the evacuation operation.

“A school bus has been involved in a traffic mishap on Marigat-Kabarnet Road in Baringo County, which was reported at Patkawanin. A portion of a Red Cross statement said, “Our response team is currently at the  scene alongside the County Ambulance crew.”

The bus which was heading to Marigat reportedly veered off the road before rolling several times. In the widely shared photos, the bus, now upside-down in the middle of a thicket, appeared completely deformed.

A team of medical officers from Baringo Referral Hospital and three ambulances were dispatched to assist in handling the situation.The injured were transferred to Baringo County Referral Hospital for treatment and first aid.

As investigations are conducted to determine the primary cause of the disaster, the precise number of casualties is still unknown.Drivers were cautioned to approach that portion of the road cautiously in the interim.

Similar events occurred on February 24, when a Maadili Primary School bus overturned in Mathioya, Murang’a, resulting in the deaths of three students.Two students are said to have passed away from injuries they sustained while receiving care at the Murang’a Level 5 hospital, per a police complaint.

Witnesses described the tragedy as happening when the school bus lost control, drove off the road, and overturned in a thicket close by.
