Fire Engulfs Several Stalls in Market Along Waiyaki Way

On Thursday night, February 29, a fire incident  happened at the Uthiru 87 market,  which is situated along the Waiyaki Way in  Nairobi, reducing several stalls to ashes.

After the incident, Kiambu and Nairobi City County firefighters raced to the location  to assist in containing the situation before it got worse.

In the 10 pm incident, no casualties or injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire remains a mystery.

The incident, which occurred near the Kabete Police Station, left a trail of properties worth thousands destroyed, displacing many traders.

In the widely circulated videos of the incident, traders could be seen making efforts to salvage their properties from the fire, which was fast escalating to other stalls.

Meanwhile, residents living nearby could be seen watching the unfolding from a distance, even as rescue operations continued.

Some traders were able to escape the fire with their properties unharmed, even  though the majority of the items were burned. Since then, inquiries into the enigmatic fire have been made in an effort to  determine  its primary origin. There have been previous reports of fire incidents in Nairobi markets. Similar events were recorded on December 8, including a fire at the Kasarani  Carwash location near Thika Road.

Before firefighters arrived, locals raced to the site to assist in saving the smoke-engulfed furniture.

The cause of the accident was also yet to be established, and it was unclear whether police had visited the area to record statements and launch investigations into the midday fire.

According to witnesses, the carwash area had been plagued by a series of tragic incidents in the past few years, with the most recent being the collapsing of a building which claimed three lives.
