An enraged crowd in Kisumu’s Manyatta on Tuesday night killed three young guys who had been apprehended trying to steal a motorbike from a rider.Witnesses claim that following the failed theft attempt, a group of residents cornered the trio—two of whom had taken the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) and Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams in 2023—and led them to their home in the Manyatta Estate.
It is reported that the three were living together and were good friends. At this moment, the mob severely thrashed them before igniting their corpses.
When the Kasagam Police Station officers learned of the occurrence, they raced to the area and discovered the three people’s lifeless bodies had been severely burned. The deceased’s bodies were brought to the mortuary at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital so that an autopsy could be performed.
Since then, investigations into the gruesome killings of the three have begun, and authorities have cautioned the public against attempting to enforce the law on their own.
An enraged mob has lynched criminals in failed robberies on previous occasions. In a same incident that happened in Pangani, Nairobi, in November of last year, two robbers were apprehended, beaten to death, and then set ablaze.
According to a police report, the two were apprehended after attempting to take a cell phone from a resident who was on her way home from the town center after finishing her shopping.
A portion of a police report said, “The victims had been consumed by the fire and burned beyond recognition.”In order to await a post-mortem examination, the two bodies were transported to the municipal mortuary.
